Six Ways To Build Speaking Confidence
Lacking confidence for speaking is one of the most common problem among people where they fail to overcome the fear and remain silent, this can be in person, among several people or in front of a big crowd. This causes issues especially in the business world where one’s input, suggestions and questions are necessary.
Speaking is one of those fine quality that helps anyone in any field to shine and be a vital member of a team, whether as a student, professional or any role. Speaking is a must have quality for any individual who seeks personal growth.
Overcoming the fear of speaking among several people is a great challenge, especially if you are new or young, you might think your suggestions are not worthy enough but remember you are getting paid for this or sometimes language becomes the barrier.
There are several ways that can help in building confidence, I will share important six ways that have been helping me for the past several years.
Note down
Noting down points for suggestion, questions or anything before going to a meeting or to a person is a great way to help yourself in building confidence. It helps when you forget what you planned to discuss about.
Practice
Practicing always helps you, practice alone, think about what you want to discuss, think how you want to start a conversation, talk to yourself in front of the mirror, these are all the easy ways that can help you. This really helps especially in those situations where language becomes the barrier, you do not know what words to choose or what words people may expect in that culture otherwise people may not be able to understand you clearly but it does not even matter just speak up, things will get better with time.
Speak on low risk situation
Build up your confidence by speaking at low risk situation, by low risk I mean situations where your mistake can easily be ignored, never try to be over smart, it could cost you.
Ask questions
Easiest way to start speaking is by asking questions, if you don’t have anything in your mind to suggest then you can ask any question, even the dumbest question will be good for a start. If you have no idea what is going on, start with the simple question like I have no idea what’s going on, would you mind giving me some context?
.
Do not overthink
Whenever you have something to speak up, just do a quick review and speak up. Never keeps on thinking because it will hold you off for various reasons like, this has already been suggested, this question has already been asked, its better to search myself, or its better to ask in person.
Agree with others
Job inexperience might bring so many difficulties in start of your career just because you have nothing to suggest or nothing to ask. Then comes up the quality of agreeing with others. Try to second others when you believe in their suggestion or even when the room is supporting the suggestion.
