The purpose of this article is to share some quick tips that help when looking for a job in this domain, there are few things that really counts in this area.
These fields especially non-engineering require high experience, and companies look only for PHDs and for sure you cannot get that job in the start of your career, that’s the trend in big established companies. But one can easily look for these jobs in startups, they have low requirements but a lot of room for learning and definitely a great start to a career.
Before you start applying for a job, evaluate yourself through resume, does your resume reflect your passion? your passion can be described in many ways. The big word around this passion is Contribution
, if you are passionate then its very easy to deal with this word.
Contributions can be in many ways, some of are:
Share your work, unique projects on online repositories like Github.
Share your knowledge through blogs, like Medium.
Help others by answering questions on forums like StackOverflow and Quora.
But what to contribute if you don’t know anything? Then there comes MOOCs, start doing online courses from top sources like Cousera, Udacity and Udemy. Which source to pick?
Coursera
Provides financial aid, theoretically good, takes time, affiliated through top Universities. Usually good for beginners.
Udacity
Quick practical courses from professional companies like Google, expensive Nano Degree program but extremely useful, you can find some parts of it as free. Some great advanced courses.
Udemy
Affordable courses, mainly bootcamps that help you to learn in few hours, courses can be contributed by anyone, unlike the above two.
Last thing, a competitive advantage which is the use of cloud computing, platforms like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure all provide atleast one month free trial, or even some have special accounts for students. Start playing with data of atleast GBs, start doing manipulations on these servers, they have built-in AI libraries which you can implement easily in a big data environment. This helps a lot, if you are familiar with these technologies then you are certainly leading the race.
